Las Positas College Theater Arts Program presents fall production of William Shakespeare's Macbeth
Las Positas College's (LPC) Theater Arts program is delighted to present its upcoming fall production of William Shakespeare's Macbeth, a thrilling, suspenseful tragedy. The production will run from October 25 to November 2 on the LPC campus at the Mertes Center for the Arts Black Box Theater.
Written by William Shakespeare and directed and adapted by Titian Lish, this production of Macbeth is a thrilling story of a courageous warrior who, driven by prophecy and a thirst for power, descends into madness and murder. As Macbeth and Lady Macbeth claw their way to the throne, the haunting consequences of their choices unravel in a suspense-filled spiral of intrigue, supernatural forces, and inevitable doom.
"Having the opportunity to play the role of Macbeth has been such a welcoming challenge for me as an actor," shared Cecily Hansson, who is portraying Macbeth. "Shakespeare's creation of such a dynamic, conflicted, and, at times, maniacal character is so thrilling to explore. My approach to playing this antihero has been to look through the lens with empathy and compassion, trying to understand the thought processes and human behavior that are responsible for their inevitable downfall."
Journey into the heart of ambition, betrayal, and dark magic as Scottish General Macbeth kills the King of Scotland, encouraged by three witches and his wife, to become Scotland's new king. The production is a story of paranoia, death, and civil war.
"Our modern take on Macbeth with non-traditional casting really lends itself to a fun, alternative approach to costumes," Costume Designer Jennifer Gough shared. "The designs take inspiration from edgy high-fashion designers like Alexander McQueen, and we've used different materials to define characters, like leather jackets and harnesses on soldiers or the flowing, diaphanous fabrics of the witches to highlight their dancelike movements. We've taken time to work with actors to understand their interpretations of their characters so we can costume them in ways that allow them to comfortably embody characters who may not align with their own gender identity."
The following individuals have also played crucial roles in making this production happen:
The cast includes 18 skilled actors, including Cecily Hansson, Lucas Childree, Bee Azevedo, Jared Henry, Thomas Henry, Leïana Ceitelis, Alex Lobao, Roman Bolusan, Maahee Joshi, William Burgess, Miles Vetrovec, Kiana Porr, Renn Ma, Demi Starzak, Kinsey Ferrera, Alina Weingand, Kale Yunker, and Ashley Jensen.
Join us for this epic tale of power and fate for two weekends only, October 25-27 and November 1-2. Showtimes are Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. as well as a Sunday, October 27 showing at 2 p.m..
